Dr. Jonathan Templin

Bio:

Dr. Jonathan Templin is the E. F. Lindquist Chair and Professor in Educational Measurement and Statistics at the University of Iowa, where he co-directs the Center for Advanced Studies in Measurement and Assessment. Holding a Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology and M.S. in Statistics from the University of Illinois, his research focuses on enhancing educational effectiveness by applying advanced quantitative methods—including Bayesian statistics, psychometrics, and diagnostic classification models—to better understand learning processes and inform instruction. Supported by NSF and IES funding, Dr. Templin’s work bridges sophisticated measurement techniques with practical educational improvements. His contributions include the award-winning book Diagnostic Measurement, significant editorial roles (past Co-Editor, Journal of Educational Measurement), development of the Dynamic Learning Maps assessment scoring algorithm, and three U.S. patents stemming from his research in diagnostic modeling, leading to licensed educational technology.
