Dr. Betsy Jane Becker

Bio:

Betsy Jane Becker is Professor Emeritus at Florida State University and a researcher in meta-analysis and educational psychometrics. She was the Mode L. Stone Distinguished Professor of Educational Statistics in the Department of Statistics at Florida State University, and previously served as Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems. Becker is a co-author of a highly cited consensus report on standards for meta-analysis in epidemiology.

Becker earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from Johns Hopkins University in 1978, and completed her Ph.D. in education at the University of Chicago in 1985 under the supervision of Larry V. Hedges. Her dissertation was titled Applying Tests of Combined Significance: Hypotheses and Power Considerations. She joined the Michigan State University faculty in 1983, where she directed the Office of Research Consultation until 1990, and moved to Florida State University in 2004, becoming the Mode L. Stone Distinguished Professor in 2009.

Becker is a Fellow of both the American Statistical Association (since 2008) and the American Educational Research Association (since 2013).
