2010 SMEP Dissertation Support Awards
The Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology (SMEP) announces awards to help support the dissertation work of graduate students working in psychology and related disciplines, with special emphasis on multivariate approaches to measurement and analysis of substantive problems. The awards are for graduate students who are Ph.D. candidates and are actively working on their dissertations. The awards are limited to graduate students whose chair of their dissertation committee is an active member or emeritus member of SMEP. Awards may be made up to a maximum of $1000 per student for up to five students. Funds may be requested for costs associated with dissertation research, including but not limited to subject costs, material and mailing costs, equipment costs, and computer software. Awards may not fund stipends for the candidates themselves, and they may not fund usual costs of graduate education such as photocopies of the dissertation or office computers.
Applications for the award must be completed by Friday December 11, 2009. Review of the applications will take place in the following six weeks. We expect that the awards will be announced by about the middle of January, 2010.
The application must include:
- A letter of support from the chair of the dissertation committee; (Each SMEP member is permitted to nominate one Ph.D. candidate per year.);
- A summary of the proposed dissertation work not to exceed 1500 words;
- A budget with a brief narrative describing major categories of expenses (not to exceed one-half page);
- Contact information for the applicant and the advisor including full address, phone number, fax, and e-mail of both the applicant and the advisor.
Applications should be sent as an e-mail attachment (.pdf, .rtf, or .doc formats) to the address listed below. Please name your proposal (i.e. the attachment document) using the following convention: SMEP10.ds.Surname.Unv, where Surname is your last name and Unv is an abbreviation for your university.
